a looming thought...
gearbird: breatheincolor: Do artists have a place in this recession? Of course, poor and starving with everyone else! Only difference is we’re used to it, and more creative about dealing with it. Actualy, entertainment industries such as films and video games have shown to be less effected by recessions. Artists employed in mass-market industries will probably actually get to remain employed....

Capitalism, Communism and You an educational short film that is also my final. Two of the jokes were paid paid for on the Amazon.com Mechanical Turk. I paid strangers four cents each to tell me which, between capitalism and communism, they liked better with the worst reason why. I got a lot more responses than were useable for the video but that was the most fun I’ve ever had with six...

sounds in the mind: voices in my head
colgatedekristin: Whenever I read an article from anywhere, or read anything, I hear a certain voice in my mind, but.. I don’t think its my voice. At least they don’t sound the same. (But is that partially where the commonly used phrase “That’s not what it sounded like in my head” comes from? And is that also the same thing as people always being surprised as to how their voices sound?) I don’t...

Also, I finished listening to the album. It’s not as good as “Appetite for Destruction” but it’s a fine, extraordinarily crafted album.

The new Axl Rose album, Chinese Democracy
Has anyone else listened to it? I’m not done getting through all the songs but I’m past the half-way point and so far, I’ve found the whole album to be pretty damn enjoyable.

colgatedekristin: ““Government is an evil; it is only the thoughtlessness and vices of men that make it a necessary evil. When all men are good and wise, government will of itself decay.” -Percy Shelley “Man has no right to kill his brother. It is no excuse that he does so in uniform: he only adds the infamy of servitude to the crime of murder.”- Percy Shelley I’m doing a project on Romanticist...

hannahswann: I know that we’re in art school, but I really wish everyone would stop taking themselves so damn seriously. I like philosophical discussions and obscure authors/musicians as much as the next person but COME. ON. Yeah I also like eating sleeping and fucking. I’m a human being for christ’s sake. I like being a slobby piece of shit sometimes and enjoying my animalistic...

I don’t know why I am looking at PETA gross-out parodies of cooking video games at four in the morning. I think this is a clever and entertaining parody even if it’s not going to stop me from eating meat.

a computer built to control humanity defends its purpose (via Vimeo) This is my text project for VCU’s Time Studio class. The text is from the insanely good computer game Deus Ex. It’s cool because in addition to affecting the actions of other game characters, your character’s actions will change their motivations.

For My Groups
colgatedekristin: Can someone remind me what to bring? I remember a cowboy hat, but is that it? You were wearing a big heavy jacket when you were playing Pickens. Do you remember whose that was? Obviously, if that was yours, you need to bring it. There were also some gloves I think you were wearing but I believe those were David’s.

That project in which we swede films:
I asked some of my friends if they could think of any movies that would lend themselves particularly well to being Sweded. The best suggestion I heard was to try and do an encapsulation of Iron Man. I think this would be particularly great to do from memory. If anyone else has seen it and thinks it’d be fun to do, please let me know. I can’t really film anything on my own since...

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent....”
– David Hume This is the text I am using for my text-video project. I chose it because it’s snappy and because it is easy to come up with anti-religious imagery.

John K Stuff: Tony the Tiger Was Cool →
Modern culture consiststs largely of watered down, homogenized versions of vintage culture. In this link, the creator of Ren and Stimpy talks about how this is particularly apparent in the evolution of Tony the Tiger into the bland shell of his former self that he is today.

YouTube - WE RUN THIS. →
Anti-Scientology videos run rampant on YouTube and they usuallyt tend to be fun, slightly creepy, well-produced pieces that attack with proper mix vitriol and class. This video, however, is superior even to Anonymous’s past efforts for its cheekily taunting tenor and its quality music and editing put a smile on my face as I watch it. Be sure to watch to the end. It is destructellent.

Bold and Innovative New Ways to Meet People, pt. 1
Recently, I moved to Richmond as part of my attendance of Virginia Commonwealth University. I’ve lived in my dorm room in the city for about three weeks now, and have found myself disappointingly stagnant when it came to meeting people and becoming friends with them. My class schedule made traditional methods such as joining clubs incredibly difficult. In the face of loneliness, I decided to...
